October is the month that brings attention to fire safety. Our students learned valuable lessons, as they received a visit from the firefighters of our Pennsauken Fire Department. Students gathered in the gym to listen and learn how to stay safe and what to do if there is a fire. Fireman Norman and Fireman Mark showed us a smoke detector and demonstrated the sound we hear when it senses smoke. After discussing how we should never play with lighters or matches, we were shown the clothing a firefighter wears. Fireman Norman put each piece of clothing and equipment on, including his mask, as Fireman Mark let us know all that equipment keeps them safe and makes it possible for them to rescue people. Fireman Greg and his volunteers, Regina, Cesar, and Simone reminded us how to Stop, Drop, and Roll should clothing catch fire. Afterwards, the students were able to go out to the school yard and visit with Fireman Jeff and see all the apparatus that is on a ladder firetruck. (A big hit with our younger students.)
A great big THANK YOU, to the Pennsauken Fire Department and to all the firefighters, who came to our school, to remind and teach us how important fire safety is for everyone. You made leaning FUN
