On December 18th the students of St. Cecilia’s, under the guidance of Mrs. Rhea, presented this year’s Christmas Show, “Ugly Sweater Party”. From teachers, to students, to practices, and songs, it all came together for a beautiful performance intertwining the story of the night when Jesus was born using ugly sweaters.
It all started with Gabrielle/Angel welcoming everyone to the ugly sweater party and giving the idea to play, the story telling game. When asked by Gabrielle’s guests to explain the game, we learned – players in the story telling game take turns with the first person setting the scene and everyone else adds to the story. Gabrielle begins the game, “I am the angel Gabriel, showing her wings and tells of the visit by Gabriel to Mary. The game continues telling the story of the birth of Jesus.
Each grade sang a special song. Beginning with Fourth grade: It Feels Like Christmas; Eighth grade: Hark the Herald Angels Sing; Seventh grade: Road to Bethlehem; Second grade: Oh, What a Special Night; Fifth grade: Angels We Have Heard on High; Third grade: Star of the Morning; Sixth grade: Little Drummer Boy; First grade: Happy Birthday Jesus; and Kindergarten: God Gave Me Jesus. Each class sang wonderfully with smiles on their faces.
It was a wonderful interpretation of the story of Jesus’ birth. We thank all of the students who participated in this production. Well done everyone. We would also like to especially thank Mrs. Rhea for all of her hard work in putting the show together.
Afterwards, Sr. Alicia wished everyone a safe holiday, and asked all of our many alumni to come forward and lead everyone in our regular closing song, Feliz Navidad.
Merry Christmas everyone. And, as Tiny Tim would say: "God bless us, everyone.”
